Hans Kok Holland 1958 Larisa Zvesdochetova Russia 1958 They met each other during a project in 2003 in Rotterdam, Holland. In 2004 they travel to Odessa and Moscow for two important exhibititions. After several common projects in 2005, they start to paint together in the beginning of 2006 and are trying to find a mysterious ligth with the creatures, expressions and colours of our time. Normal life in a special way. The paintings are based on their private photo's in a new composition. The first series is called Missing Links, where they rethink the forgotten expressive meanings of painterly language and aesthetics. XoXLaR subtily indicate that something important is missing, behind each image we can sense a story that intrigues us, but slips away without giving an answer. We want to solve the mystery, but to many connections are missing. Could the solution lie in the nomadic characters, who wander from one painting to another? Or should we look to the landscape surrounding the beach. XoXLaR's work forces viewers to confront their own confusion, to make them think about the fundamently incomplete nature of our cognition and the self-awareness of modern man. In 2007 they are nominated for the Kandinsky-prize in Russia. A Russian art-critic describe their paintings 'as a pier in the sea of stereotypes'.
